A spirit of compassion and love, and the enjoyment of knitting and/or crocheting are all that is required to be a part of this ministry. Shawls are created in combination with prayers and blessings, then given without cost to those who are celebrating a joyous occasion or who may be experiencing a time of difficulty or sorrow. Since the beginning of Prayer Shawl Ministry at St. Peter's Cathedral in 2007, prayer shawls have been distributed to our parishioners as well as to individuals within and outside of the London community. Each Lenten Season we take on a Project of Love, and have donated prayer shawls to groups such as St. Vincent de Paul, London Hospice, and the Franciscans of Emmanuel in Montreal in support of their ministry to troubled youth and for their mission hospital in Cameroon, Africa. Novice and experienced knitters and crocheters are always welcome to join us in our circle of contemplative prayer in the crafting of prayer shawls.
